Welcome to Highfield Primary School

Please see below in NEWS for important information for parents / carers regarding Highfield's Snow and Ice Policy

WELCOME

Highfield is a happy school, where children learn in a caring environment and all are valued. Our school motto CARE stands for our values of:

Consideration

Aspiration

Responsibility

Enjoyment

which we encourage our school community to demonstrate through their words and actions.

We aim to develop creative approaches to learning where children are engaged, excited and enthused about what they are doing in school. We teach children to aim high and develop their individual skills and talents so that each child achieves their potential.

We want to instil in children a love of learning for its own sake and help them become confident, self-disciplined individuals capable of engaging in a lifelong process of learning.

I hope you find the information here a helpful insight into the life and work of our school.

NEWS

PROTOCOL FOR DEALING WITH SEVERE ICE AND SNOW

Occasionally, severe ice and snow makes Highfield’s playground, paths and car park dangerous. Although the local authority want to keep schools open if at all possible, we have to consider what would happen if a child or adult fell and was seriously injured or died as a result of that fall. We also have to consider if the outlying conditions may prevent staff being able to get to school. Furthermore, severe conditions could affect the heating or hot water systems, cause burst pipes and floods or prevent the delivery of food for school meals (a legal requirement).

ARRANGEMENTS

In order to minimise lost education days and the disruption to parents / carers the school will take the following steps:

1.  As soon as is reasonably possible, make an announcement and display

information on the schools website. www.highfield-primary.trafford.sch.uk

2.  Inform parents of school opening or closure as soon as is reasonably possible

by email and text.

3.  Provide Radio Manchester with the school’s current status of being open or

closed (or a delayed opening).

4.  Inform Trafford Council. All closure information can be found by visiting

www.trafford.gov.uk/schoolclosures.

5.  Inform parents / carers either by email, text or telephone to collect children should

the weather deteriorate during the day, forcing school to close early.

HOW PARENTS CAN HELP

1. In case the school should close and parents are able to get to work, it is

advisable to make preparations in advance for the care of their children.

2. In snow and icy conditions it is requested that cars are not driven down

Bridgenorth Avenue or into the school car park.

3. Ensure that children wear appropriate warm and waterproof clothing and have a change of

footwear (wellingtons / snow boots / slippers)and bring a spare pair of socks / tights.
