DT enrichment
At Highfield we aim to find ways to enrich our school curriculum through clubs, event days and other opportunities.
DT Club
In spring term UKS2 were invited to join a joint art and DT club. The club focussed on designing and making a clay ocarina. The children had a number of sessions focussing on the design process, how to manipulate clay properly, about different types of glazes and evaluating their finished pieces. We had a specialist visit us from a nearby school to assist with the making, and the ocarinas were fired in a kiln off site. The final pieces will be going on display soon after school.
DT day
In spring 2021 we introduce our very first DT day, which is set to become a biennial event. Each class was given a different British inventor or designer to research and create products based on their creations. We looked at inventors such as Isambard Kingdom Brunel, James Dyson and designers such as Mary Quant. We look forward to carrying out our next DT day in 2023 and building on our great work from last time.
