At Highfield we aim to find ways to enrich our school curriculum through clubs, event days and other opportunities.
Y3&4 Handball Competition @ BeActive. March 2024
The children had a wonderful this afternoon playing handball. We were entered into two competetions. Coming 4th in one and 3rd in another. 1 of the teams came top of their group! We are very proud of them all. Excellent sportsmanship shown by all.
Biggest Ever Football Session March 2024
On March 8th we celebrated the FA's Biggest Ever Football Session. We wanted to get as many girls playing football as possible. The turn out was amazing and the buzz around school was fantastic too.
Fives Football Tournament Year 5&6
Thanks to School of Play, we were lucky enough to take part in a football tournament at Fives in Trafford. We entered a Year 5 boys team and a Year 5/6 girls team. The children showed great determination and teamwork and both teams finished in the top 3.
Disney Shooting Stars Girls Football Festival
Some of the girls in Key Stage 1 took part in a Disney festival. The idea of the event was for it to be a fun, physical activity session themed around the magic of Disney to introduce the girls to the basic skills that they will need to develop to be able to engage with the sport of football.
School Football Team
Our school football team have been busy playing matches against other schools in the football league.
The boys had a fantastic opportunity to be flag bearers at Bury FC.

Netball Club
Mrs Sweeney is running a netball club every Thursday for Year 5&6. The children are learning the skills of the game, perfecting the techniques and playing matches. The children are preparing for a netball tournament coming up in Summer 2.
Cross Country
Miss Newman runs a Cross Country club every Thursday lunchtime during the Autumn term. The children practise running techniques and strategies and complete exercises to help build up their stamina.
Some of the children in Year 6 are then taking part in the Cross Country races held at Sale Harriers Running Club.
The first race was held on November 26th and the children did incredibly well. They now know what to expect and are looking forward to competing at the next one.
Active Maths
We use Teach Active to enhance maths lessons at Highfield. These are active lesson starters, plenaries or main tasks that get the children up and active.
