EYFS to KS1 Progression

At Highfield Primary School, we believe that strong foundations in the Early Years are key to children's future success. Every new skill, piece of knowledge and learning experience helps to build children's confidence, independence and curiosity, preparing them for the next stage of their education.

Our EYFS to KS1 Progression Documents show how learning develops from Nursery, through Reception and into Year 1. They highlight the journey children take as they build the knowledge, skills and vocabulary needed to become confident, capable learners.

By carefully planning progression across the Early Years, we ensure that children have opportunities to revisit, practise and deepen their understanding through meaningful play, exciting experiences and high-quality teaching. This supports a smooth transition into Key Stage 1 and helps every child develop the strong foundations they need to flourish both academically and personally.
